
CHARLOTTE, N.C.– A 10-month-old is back home safe after police say she was abducted Saturday afternoon.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police department responded to a child abduction call for service at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Fawnbrook Lane. Β
When officers arrived a woman said she was approached by a stranger who asked if she could hold the woman’s 10-month-old daughter. Β Police say the woman let the stranger hold her daughter and then all of a sudden the stranger took off running with the child and got into a vehicle. Β
Police in the Freedom Division located the suspect and 10-month-old in a parking lot in the 3200 block of Wilkinson Boulevard. Β
Police identified the suspect as Sharlornai Matai Reid, 22, and arrested her on an unrelated larceny warrant out of Buncombe County. Β
Reid was transported to Carolinas Medical Center for medical treatment. Β
Detectives obtained warrants for child abduction and assault with a deadly weapon which will be served on Reid at the Mecklenburg County Jail once she has been medically cleared.Β
