CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A manhunt for a suspect possibly armed with an assault rifle closed a north Charlotte road for several hours. Β
Witnesses say a man was seen shooting an AR-15 out of the sunroof of an older model Ford Mustang just before 11am. Β
Moments later, police were called to a crash near a Bojangles involving a vehicle that matched the above description.
Witnesses told police they saw the man run into a wooded area off Statesville Road. Β Investigators searched the woods with K-9 units and by helicopter but a suspect was never located.
During the search, Statesville Road and the ramp to I-85 from Statesville Road was shut down. Β The roads have since reopened.
Police are still on the scene but no arrests have been made at this time. Β No injuries were reported in the alleged shooting.
