Gastonia apartment fire ruled arson

GASTONIA, N.C.– The Gastonia Fire Department responded to an apartment fire early Sunday morning. Β 

Firefighters were called to the 800 block of Barkley Street around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in response to a reported apartment fire. Β Β 

When they arrived, firefighters found smoke showing from the second floor of an apartment building.Β

After entering the building, officials say they found heavy fire on the second floor. Β They put out the flames in about ten minutes and kept the fire contained to one unit. Β 

The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damages and no injuries were reported.Β 

The Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office ruled that the fire was intentionally set. Β Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
