SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) β A.J. Fike raced to his first ARCA Racing Series victory yesterday, holding off Kyle Weatherman at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. From Galesburg, the 35-year-old Fike became the first Illinois driver to win the event since Justin Allgaier in 2006.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) β Australia’s Sam Groth beat American Jared Donaldson last night in the first round of the Winston-Salem Open. Groth won 6-7, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5) to advance to face 13th-seeded American Steve Johnson in the second round. South Korea’s Chung Hyeon also advanced, beating Britain’s James Ward, 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-3.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) β Davis Love III won the Wyndham Championship yesterday to become the third-oldest winner in PGA Tour history, while Tiger Woods’ season came to an abrupt end. The 51-year-old Love closed with a 6-under 64 for a one-stroke victory over Jason Gore.
