Rock Hill Babysitter Arrested For Leaving Children In Hot Car

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police arrest a babysitter for allegedly leaving two children in a hot car in downtown Rock Hill.

According to a Rock Hill Police report, officers arrived at Wells Fargo on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. on Friday after witnesses saw two children crying in their car seats with no adult supervision. Witnesses say they checked inside the bank but did not find a parent or guardian. After 30 minutes passed, they called the police.

The children, ages 2 and 4, were taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment and their mother was contacted.

The babysitter, 21-year-old Mary Elizabeth Jaynes, of Fort Mill, was found at a nearby job recruiting business and escorted back to her car. According to reports, she had been there for approximately an hour.

Police say Jaynes has been charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child. She is currently being held at York County Detention Center without bond.
