County Officials Protecting Confederate Monument

CHARLOTTE, NC — A Confederate monument vandalized several times is now being protected by Mecklenburg County officials.

The county built a wooden frame over the 1929 granite pillar memorial and installed a transparent Plexiglas container around it.  It’s located between Memorial Stadium and the Grady Cole Center on Kings Drive.

The memorial features the Confederate Battle Flag in four places and racist language.
