Nations Ford Community Church pastor dies in accidental shooting

UNION COUNTY, N.C.–  Dr. Phillip M. Davis, the senior pastor of Nations Ford Community Church, died Saturday from an accidental shooting according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Union County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call around 1:10 p.m. Saturday from a home on Waybridge Way in Weddington.  Deputies say the caller, Cynthia Davis, found her husband, Dr. Phillip M. Davis, collapsed at his desk.

Officials with the Union County Sheriff’s Office say that  Davis was planning a trip to the firing range Saturday and invited his son to go.  They say it is apparent that Davis was cleaning his pistol at his desk when it accidentally fired, striking him fatally in the chest.

The investigation revealed no signs of foul play, and the evidence confirms it was an accidental death.
