BOONE, N.C. — A predator who drove across the country to meet a child ended up meeting police instead.
Police say 28-year-old J P Thrower was arrested after he drove to Boone to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. It turned out to be a detective posing as the young girl online in order to catch predators like Thrower.
The Boone Police Department is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), a task force that combats the growing problem of crimes against children using the internet. The department says they constantly monitor and pose as underage children on websites that predators use to connect with children.
“The fight to protect our children is ongoing. With new technology comes new threats and law enforcement must remain vigilant,” Alan Flora, the NC State Bureau of Investigation Computer Crimes Unit, told authorities.
According to reports, Thrower has a court appearance on September 17th.
