UPDATE: Union County Lifts Mandatory Water Restrictions

CHARLOTTE, NC — Mandatory water restrictions in Union County have been lifted. It’s a follow up to a story we first told you about this weekend.
The county declared a stage three water shortage Saturday after a fuel spill in the Catawba River. The spill shut down a water treatment plant that supplies water to most Union County communities. Officials say that fuel spill is no longer detectable in the river.
Union County is still under stage one water restrictions tonight because of the ongoing drought. The county, and most others in our region, are facing moderate drought conditions.
Right now, only Cleveland county is classified as being in a severe drought.
