UPDATE: Union County Lifts Mandatory Water Restrictions

CHARLOTTE, NC —Β Mandatory water restrictions in Union County have been lifted. Β It’s a follow up to a story we first told you about this weekend.
The county declared a stage three water shortage Saturday after a fuel spill in the Catawba River. Β The spill shut down a water treatment plant that supplies water to most Union County communities. Β Officials say that fuel spill is no longer detectable in the river.
Union County is still under stage one water restrictions tonight because of the ongoing drought. Β The county, and most others in our region, are facing moderate drought conditions.
Right now, only Cleveland county is classified as being in a severe drought.
