The Edgitators: Should Killing an Officer be a Hate Crime?
A massive manhunt is underway near Chicago for three suspects wanted for murdering a police officer. Β Lt. Joe Gliniewicz,Β a 30-year veteran of the Fox Lake Police Department, was shot while chasing the three men Tuesday morning.
Tuesday’s murder comes on the heels of another police shooting. Β That one in Houston, Texas, where a sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while pumping gas.
According to the website Officer Down Memorial Page, 23 officers across the country have been killed in the last nine months. Β Meanwhile, closer to home, the North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police says it will push for legislation that would make shooting a police officer a hate crime.
