CHARLOTTE, NC —Β The school year is off to a relatively smooth start for CMS, but there is still a need for more teachers in the classroom.

CMS has 2,400 more students this year, pushing total enrollment to almost 148,000.

Superintendent Ann Clark told the school board Tuesday night that there are still 80 teacher vacancies.

“We still have teacher vacancies, primarily at the elementary level and at the secondary level. Math is probably still one of our most challenged areas,” said Superintendent Clark.

Clark is also concerned with the fate of more than 500 teacher assistants. Β The state still hasn’t passed a budget, and funding for those TAs could run out on September 18.
