LANCASTER, SC– The Secret Service and Lancaster Sheriff’s arrested several people for conspiring to commit crimes against the United States.
Reports say a group of people known as “boosters” were stealing merchandise from large retailers including Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, CVS, Dollar General, Family Dollar and Harris Teeter in North Carolina.
The boosters would then reportedly bring the merchandise into Lancaster County and sell it at a fraction of it’s retail cost.
The stolen items would then be sold again at a profit.
After a two year investigation, informants and undercover investigators say they used documented funds and merchandise provided by retailers to catch the persons responsible.
Authorities charged Thomas Brice McManus, 64, Sharon Steele McManus, 65, Harold Scott McDonald, 30 and Jimmy Lee Montgomery, 67 with conspiracy to commit crimes against the United States and Interstate Receipt of Stolen Property.
