Officials: One Dead In Wreck On I-77 In Chester County

CHESTER, S.C. — Officials say one person is dead after a tractor-trailer truck collided with a pick-up truck on Interstate 77 in Chester.

Troopers say the driver of the tractor-trailer truck was headed southbound on I-77 when he crossed the median and crashed head-on into a pick-up.  The driver of the Dodge Ram pick-up was killed.

The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  Officials say he was a contractor for the postal service.

Employees with the postal service were able to transfer the mail inside the burnt truck to Charlotte for delivery.  However, they did say some of the mail was damaged or destroyed.

The accident happened around 10am.  Witnesses sent pictures to WCCB showing both the vehicles on fire after the collision.
