NEW YORK (AP) β€” Joseph Gordon-Levitt would only nod and walk away when asked about his secret meeting with Edward Snowden.

But the actor did take the time to compare playing the former National Security Agency systems analyst to the character he portrays in his latest film. In “The Walk,” he plays high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who walked across a wire between the World Trade Center’s twin towers in 1974.

Gordon-Levitt said both men took enormous risks, showed incredible courage and broke the law for something they believed in.

He made the comments Saturday at the opening night of the New York Film Festival, where “The Walk,” which chronicles Petit’s high-wire stunt, held its world premiere.

As for “Snowden,” the film written and directed by Oliver Stone comes out in 2016.
