Victim Of CATS Bus Crash Identified

UPDATE: the victim of the fatal CATS bus crash has been identified as Melanie Michele Myer.

According to reports, the CATS bus collided with a Myer’s Ford F150 in the intersection of East 3rd Street and the off ramp from John Belk Freeway.  

Officials say Myer was traveling on the off ramp from John Belk Freeway and approached the intersection of East 3rd Street. The vehicles in this lane were stopped at a red light, so she reportedly swerved around them and entered the intersection.

That is when the front of the CATS bus struck the driver’s side of her vehicle, officials say.

Myer was transported to Carolinas Medical Center Main with critical injuries and later pronounced deceased.

She worked at First Baptist Church as a preschool teacher.

 


CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has died and several others are injured after a bus accident in Uptown Charlotte. The accident happened just before 5 p.m. on Monday on 3rd Street at S. McDowell Street.

The outbound ramp from 277 to E. 3rd Street are closed and are expected to remain closed for some time while authorities investigate.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is on scene with CATS officials.

Police tell WCCB, there are more than a dozen people injured. They were transported to nearby hospitals.
