
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Police say they charged seven students from Lake Norman High School for illegally accessing school computers.
Investigators say at least one student was able to manipulate his school issued laptop to access the administrative password. Detectives say the student was able to access other student’s computers while on the school campus.
Directions on how to access the administrative password was allegedly passed along to other students who also gained access through their school issued laptops.
The students are accused of manipulating files and activating webcams on other student’s computers while on campus.
Officials say they do not believe any person student data, testing materials or grades were affected. The school’s IT department was able to regain security access.
The students have been suspended from school and charged with one count of accessing computers without authorization.
Police charged: Edmund Martin, Jr., Gregory Torney, Grayson Baker, Joshua Miller and two juvenile male students.
