PITTSBURGH (AP) β The Steelers are playing host this evening to the Ravens in the NFL Thursday night game. It’s an AFC North matchup with the Steelers starting play 2-1 and the Ravens, for the first time in their history, winless in three games. The game also marks the first start for Michael Vick at quarterback for the Steelers as he is filling in for the injured Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur).
BALTIMORE (AP) β The Blue Jays wrapped up the American League East title last night. The divisional championship is the first for the Jays in 22 years. Their dugout emptied at the final out and players jumped up and down in a mass huddle between the mound and the third-base line.
PITTSBURGH (AP) β The St. Louis Cardinals are once again National League Central champs. That marks three straight years they’ve won the division. The Cards have won 11 division titles since 1994.
UNDATED (AP) β Just one division remains up for grabs in baseball, the American League West. Entering tonight’s play the Rangers top the Astros by 2 Β½ games and the Angels by three. Tonight the Angels are playing host to the Rangers while the Astros are off.
CHICAGO (AP) β Bulls guard Derrick Rose has had surgery to repair his left eye socket after he was injured in practice earlier in the week. Coach Fred Hoiberg says Rose should be able to resume basketball activities in about two weeks. That would be just two weeks before the season opener against Cleveland Oct. 27.
