Power outtages and fallen trees create problems across the area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Heavy winds, and rain create problems for residents across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County.

Glen Fryer knows first-hand he says, “We had big gusts come out may have been up there 95, it was bending the trees.” Those trees eventually gave in, knocking down power lines and destroying Fryers backyard. “When I walked in the house I knew there wasn’t know electricity the cable wasn’t working the clock was off I knew then there wasn’t any power,” said Fryer.

Fryer just one of 4,000 Duke Energy customers in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area without power today. We found crews nearby working to get it back. Despite the damage, he is one of the lucky ones. “I woke up this morning went to walk my dog, turned around and was like what’s going on,” said Adam Sanders.

This home on Long Grass Court in Northwest Charlotte forced the family to evacuate, tree limbs sticking from the bedroom, a teddy bear hanging from the window, their car destroyed. Their next door neighbor still can’t believe the damage. “It makes me very nervous simple fact trees can collide on any building, any house and everything,” Said Sanders.

And this was the scene from the North to the South. Rain saturated the grounds, and heavy winds caused trees to fall everywhere. On Rodey Ave in North Charlotte a tree fell into this window, in South Charlotte this huge tree uprooted, knocking down power lines onto this home. On Annlin Ave. And in Southpark this tree fell onto the driveway of this home on Sharon rd. Many residents spent the day without power, looking at a hefty clean up bill and assessing the damage. “Cable company got to come out, tree company got to come out. (me) this is expensive ordeal? (glen) yes very expensive,” said Fryer.
