Flooding Puts South Carolina Under a State of Emergency

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina is in a State of Emergency with some areas slammed with up to 24 inches of rain, leading to historic flooding, and dangerous conditions.

In Columbia, crews worked around the clock Sunday to rescue neighbors stranded by the storm.

Portions of of Garners Ferry Road were under water, leaving cars and businesses submerged.

“I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe this was Columbia. I thought I was somewhere else when I rode up and saw all this flooding,” says Hopkins, SC resident Irvin Sumter.

Swift Water Rescue volunteers Brian Welsh and Zack Wright live in Rock Hill but came down to help.

They spent the day going door to door at homes and businesses, looking for indications of anyone still trapped.

“These houses are completely under water. We’re not seeing any signs. So we’re double checking behind everybody, just to make sure everything’s clear,” Wright says.
