Charlotte Volunteers Head to Columbia

CHARLOTTE, NC — Volunteers from Charlotte are also joining in relief efforts in Columbia. Members of the Salvation Army packed up their disaster relief truck before heading to Columbia Monday.

They’re bringing food, 1,000 bottles of water and 4,000 cups of coffee. They’ll also provide cleaning supplies.

Volunteers say sometimes the emotional support is what’s most appreciated.

“Often when you’ve lost everything, a hot meal, and a kind word, touch on the shoulder, often means everything as far as bringing hope to people,” said Salvation Army volunteer Richard Vosteen.

The Salvation Army volunteers are planning to stay at least a week. They will rotate more crews in if needed.
