NEW YORK (AP) β€” Ta-Nehisi Coates’ best-selling “Between the World and Me” and Hanya Yanagihara’s sleeper hit “A Little Life” are among the works on the shortlist for the National Book Awards.

Lauren Groff’s novel about marriage, “Fates and Furies,” and photographer Sally Mann’s memoir, “Still Life,” were other finalists announced Wednesday by the National Book Foundation, which presents the awards.

Winners in each of the four competitive categories β€” fiction, nonfiction, poetry and young people’s literature β€” will be announced at a Nov. 18 ceremony in Manhattan, hosted by humorist Andy Borowitz. Don DeLillo and James Patterson will receive honorary prizes.

Longlists of 10 for the National Book Awards were released last month, with judges Wednesday reducing the number in each category to five.
