Dance Charlotte!

The 9th Annual Charlotte Dance Festival (CDF) will be on March 21 & 22, 2015 and will present 13 professional dance companies, 12 youth dance programs and over 150 dancers will participate in performances and classes. With the largest amount of participants, the festival is growing locally and nationally. The festival consists of 3 professional shows at the Booth Playhouse on Saturday, March 21 followed by the youth dance event CEDA at the Patricia McBride and Jean Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance in which Charlotte Ballet is the Venue Sponsor. This year CDF chose two shows to co-present: Dance Under the City Sounds and Deux Femmes, One Show. ‘We hope to offer the opportunity for dance companies to present their art in Charlotte at an affordable rate by sharing a two day rental for a great dance venue and marketing costs to promote their shows, ‘ says Caroline Calouche, Festival Founder and Director. CDF will present its headlining concert, Dance Charlotte, with local and national artists. On Sunday, March 22, over 100 young students from 12 dance programs in Charlotte will learn and dance together at the Patricia McBride and Jean Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance. They will take classes from the professional artists who performed Saturday and then perform on their own concert at 6:00pm. Connecting the future of dance to the present is extremely important for CDF board members who are all strong dance advocates locally and nationally. The Charlotte Dance Festival‘s mission is to create an innovative dance festival that is open to all dance genres. The festival presents a diverse blend of established and emerging dance artists in a variety of venue styles as a means to reach a larger audience. The vision of the Charlotte Dance Festival is to connect the uniquely diverse Charlotte community with local and national dance artists as a means to enhance cultural understanding.
