Students Raise Funds for SC Flooding Victims

CHARLOTTE, NC — Kids in Gaston County are collecting money to help the flood victims in South Carolina.

All 55 Gaston County schools participated in Nickels for Neighbors. Kids collected spare change to help replace school supplies and other items lost in the flood.

“To see them give, even if it was a small amount of change, they were very, very excited to be able to donate to a good cause,” said Sherwood Elementary Principal Tyler West. “And I just feel like the energy in the building is different today, because we started it out with something so positive.”

The goal was to raise $200 at each school. Gaston County Schools is adopting schools in Clarendon and Williamsburg Counties.
