CHARLOTTE, NC– Detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Wilkinson Boulevard Friday morning.
Reports say around 10:30 a.m. an officer attempted to assist a motorist with a broken down vehicle.
Upon approaching the officer says she recognized the vehicle as a stolen vehicle taken from a home invasion last week.
As the officer approached, reports say the driver pulled a firearm and was immediately engaged by the officer who missed the suspect after deploying her taser.
A struggle was said to ensue which led to an exchange of gunfire that sent the suspect running and attempting to carjack several motorist along Wilkinson Boulevard.
After additional officers arrived on the scene the suspect was later located nearby and taken into custody.
The female officer reportedly suffered non life threatening injuries to her hand.
