Gov. Haley Extends SC State of Emergency

CHARLOTTE, NC — The state of emergency has been extended in South Carolina as people work to clean up the mess left by historic flooding two weeks ago.

Governor Nikki Haley signed the order so the National Guard can continue helping the victims. Crews are working to re-open 74 washed-out roads across the state, and dozens of people remain in shelters.

The state fair is serving as a distraction for many.

“It’s good to see people out and walking around with their children,” said one fairgoer. “A couple weeks ago no one could come outside because a lot of areas are flooded, so it’s good to see the children running around having a good time.”

Fair officials expect 300,000 visitors this year, down from 450,000 last year. The $5 parking fee is going to help with flood relief.
