Developer Withdraws Elizabeth Neighborhood Rezoning Petition

CHARLOTTE, NC — A plan to build more apartments in the Elizabeth neighborhood won’t happen. That’s good news for some popular hangout spots in the area.

The developer withdrew the rezoning petition. It included building 200 apartments and retail space at the corner of East 7th Street and North Caswell Road. That’s the current location of Jackalope Jacks and a dog bar called Hare of the Dog.

“It’s nice to know we have a breath of fresh air; we’re basically looking a gift horse in the mouth. We got an extension of life, you know, it helps us out,” said Jackalope Jacks owner Robert Nixon.

The developer hasn’t said if it will resubmit the plans.
