Fire Destroys Veterans Facility Memorial

CHARLOTTE, NC — A fire destroys a World War I memorial wall, a trailer and wheelchairs at a local veterans facility. There’s no word on what caused the flames.
The fire broke out this afternoon in a carport at the Disabled American Veterans facility in Concord. Fire crews and neighbors in the area helped get veterans out of the building safely.
“I’m sure the men that hang out over there… that’s the place where they go,” said Concord resident Melissa Russell. “I’m sure they’re just devastated. I know I would be. “
No one was injured in the fire. The car port was destroyed. The building attached to it had minor damage.
