New Crescent Communities Development Approved on Providence Road

CHARLOTTE, NC — “We’re really excited,” said Roosters salon employee, Jessica Ingalls.

“Whenever I go anywhere, basically I come up 16 and the traffic is just getting worse and worse and worse,” said Union County resident, Fred Howell.

There are mixed opinions over another huge development approved for Providence Road in South Charlotte. The Crescent Providence Farm development plan is turning 38 acres of land into homes, a hotel, retail, office space and restaurants. While some see more traffic, others see more business. Like at Roosters Salon right across the street.

“We’re excited for all the living and just the walking traffic that’s going to be there. That’s a lot of opportunity for us in the salon to get more clients,” said Ingalls.

Sam Grogan with Caldwell Banker United says the extra housing is much needed with a low inventory right now.

“The buyers are already here, there are more coming companies like Sealed Air, Metlife, AIG, SPX are all moving corporate headquarters to this area,” said Grogan.

Not everyone is in favor; Councilwoman Claire Fallon voted against the project Monday night.

“They can’t do new roads and we can’t widen Providence anymore than it is and that’s a problem,” said Fallon.

But Grogan says infrastructure, along with needs like schools will come; it’s all part of keeping Charlotte in the spotlight as a business destination city.

“It provides a place for people who are already here to find a replacement property, whether moving up or moving down, also provides inventory for people moving into the area,” said Grogan.

Representatives for Crescent Communities tell us the goal is to make this a walking destination where you can live, eat, and shop, and they are working with neighboring communities to connect them in the most efficient way.
