37 Suspects Targeted in Gaston County Drug Roundup

CHARLOTTE, NC — A six month drug round up in Gaston County concluded Friday morning. Authorities targeted 37 suspects wanted for more than 500 felonies and misdemeanors.

Police say some of the worst offenses happened near areas where there are lots of children.

“The most serious charges that we have are that we did have offenders selling within 1,000 feet of both a day care and a park,” said Gaston Police Captain Suzanne Mauney-Smith.

Police said cracking down on drug offenders could also help lower the number of property crimes in the county. The offenders often break into cars and homes, looking for things they can quickly flip for cash or drugs.
