Deputies Seize $160K From Vehicle Traveling On I-77

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies say they seized $160,020 after they stopped a driver for a traffic violation on I-77.

Investigators say a member of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team stopped the vehicle that was being operated by an individual from New York on October 30th.

Deputies say the driver nor the passenger knew who the vehicle was registered to and then the investigation determined the two individuals were not familiar with one another.

A sheriff’s K-9 was allegedly utilized and detectives say the dog gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a duffel bag with 16 bundles of money wrapped in thick black tape.

Agents from Homeland Security took possession of the money and the investigation is ongoing. Β No other information has been released at this time.
