DALLAS (AP) β Al Jefferson scored a season-high 31 points on 15-of-18 shooting and Marvin Williams added 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Charlotte Hornets pulled away in the third quarter and beat the Dallas Mavericks 108-94 last night. Deron Williams led the Mavericks with 15 points.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β South Carolina forward A’ja Wilson will miss the Gamecocks exhibition game with Newberry tonight because of a foot injury. Coach Dawn Staley said Wilson, the SEC freshman of the year last season, should be ready when the Gamecocks open the season at home on Nov. 13 against Ohio State.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β The National Motorsports Appeals Panel has rejected an appeal by Matt Kenseth, who has been suspended for the next two races after intentionally wrecking Joey Logano over the weekend during the race at Martinsville. NASCAR says it punished Kenseth harshly because his decision to wreck Logano altered the outcome of a race.
BOONE, N.C. (AP) β Fredi Knighten threw for 208 yards and one touchdown, JD Houston kicked four field goals, and Arkansas State scored 26 straight points in a 40-27 victory over Appalachian State last night. Arkansas State forced three turnovers, including a first-quarter fumble that Chris Stone scooped and returned 19 yards for a touchdown.
