Mother Shot During Home Invasion Recovering

CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte mother who fought off intruders during a violent home invasion continues to recover from life-threatening injuries.
Family members say Semantha Bunce fired shots at the thieves who broke down the front door of her east Charlotte home Tuesday morning.Β The Army Reserve combat medic was hit at least twice, including a wound to her stomach.
Semantha is awake and able to talk, but will need more surgery.
“They’ll be checking again,” said Bunce’s father-in-law Paul Bunch. “And I want to say there’s probably another surgery or two before we’ll feel a whole lot better, like she’s out of the woods.”
Police have not released any new information on potential suspects in this home invasion.Β CMPD numbers show home invasions are up 46 percent this year.
