Mall Trades Christmas Tree for Glacier

CHARLOTTE, NC — SouthPark Mall is changing things up this holiday season, and it has a lot of people talking. This year santa isn’t sitting next to a Christmas tree. Instead, he’s inside what the mall calls a “glacier”.

The mall is owned by Simon Property Group, which plans to install glaciers at more of its shopping centers. A spokesperson tells WCCB Charlotte they value tradition, and wanted to refresh and modernize the holiday experience. Some shoppers don’t agree.

“I think it should be a Christmas tree. I know as a kid going to the mall and seeing Santa was a big deal,” said shopper Jim Vanosdall.
