Panthers’ Cam Newton Catching Heat For Ripping Down Packers Sign Before Game

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Carolina Panthers are 8-0 after a win over Green Bay, but now Cam Newton is making headlines for reasons other than his on field performance Sunday afternoon.

Before Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers Newton noticed a banner that had been hung by a local Packers fan. The banner read “North Carolina Cheesehead” with an image of North Carolina and a Packers logo in the middle of it.

After seeing it, the Panthers’ star quarterback went over and ripped the banner down.

Now, the owner of the banner is saying the sign cost him $500 and was stolen.

The team is standing behind Newton’s actions saying there is a rule that states “no banners or flags expressing support for visiting teams may be affixed to or displayed on any surface” in the stadium.

No word on whether charges will be filed in the matter.

Several of Newton’s teammates are taking up for him on Twitter.
