CMS to Vote on Charter School Lease Termination

Β

CHARLOTTE, NC — More than a hundred students could be without a place to learn next year.Β Tuesday night, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board is expected to terminate a 10-year lease agreement with Veritas Community School.

The agreement allows the charter school to use the old Villa Heights Elementary in Uptown.Β Parents say CMS wants to use the building for at-risk students from Garinger High School.

“Their parents want a better school and a better education for their kids”, says Dilworth resident Tish Nadelman. “And now, I mean… what happens? What happens to all of us?”

Veritas is holding classes at Seigle Avenue Presbyterian Church this year.Β There’s no plan for next year if they can’t use the Villa Heights building.
