Residents Worry Rain May Cause Mud Slide

LOWELL, NC — The continued rain is becoming a big problem for some homeowners in Gaston County.Β Residents in one Lowell neighborhood are worried they may have to evacuate if a massive wall of mud collapses.
The wall backs up to their homes and has been a problem for years.Β Rain over the past few weeks has caused it to push through a retaining fence.
“We’re in a dire strait on this situation,” said Lowell resident Curtis Harris. “And we’re just seeking help to get it resolved by anybody who can resolve it.”
The wall was left unfinished a when developer abandoned the second phase of the Magnolia Place retirement community.
Neighbors say since it’s on private property, they’re having trouble getting the city to help with repairs.
