MEXICO CITY, M.X. —Β Claudio Gutierrez-Cruz was taken into federal custody on Thursday by the Charlotte Division of the FBI. Β
Gutierrez-Cruz was a fugitive for more than ten years, wanted in connection with the murder of Francisco Lopez-Bautista on Fort Bragg, North Carolina on June 14, 2005. Β
He is accused of shooting Lopez-Bautista because he was raking and collecting pine straw in an area where Gutierrez-Cruz had collection rights. Β Β Β
Gutierrez-Cruz is being held in the Durham County Detention Center.Β The investigation is ongoing.
