The Edgitators: Why Doesn’t the U.S. Care Enough About Our Veterans?
The Edge continues to honor the brave men and women who risk their lives to defend this country this Veterans Day. But beneath the star-spangled awesomeness of America lies a country that is, at times, not so awesome. A country that shoves our military to the side when they return home, forcing them to fight a lonely battle after war.
Josephus Weeks, a U.S. Army war veteran, brought that battle to the fore front today by waving and saluting to fellow citizens in south Charlotte. He believes that the public’s perception of our nation’s veterans could be the reason they’re being left behind.
“Because of what happened in Vietnam, and the name calling, and the way veterans, some veterans, portray themselves, people don’t believe that veterans are outstanding citizens sometimes,” said Weeks. “They always believe that because of the deplorable nature of some of our veterans, they consider us to be a nuisance. But that’s not the case.”
So what do you think? Why don’t we care enough about our veterans? The Edgitators weigh in with a special guest: U.S. Navy veteran William Wilson.
