(AP) β Duke Williams returned a fumbled kickoff 19 yards for a touchdown and Karlos Williams grabbed a 26-yard TD pass while the Buffalo Bills wer building a 22-3 lead in a 22-17 win over the New York Jets. It was Bills coach Rex Ryan’s first game at the Meadowlands since being fired last winter after six years as head coach of the Jets. Both teams are 5-4, but the Bills own the tiebreaker for an AFC wild-card berth after handing the Jets their third loss in four games.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) β Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray practiced Thursday for the first time since suffering a concussion and is optimistic about his chances of playing against Minnesota. He leads the Raiders in rushing with 630 yards. Raiders rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper also practiced without limitations after sitting out Wednesday with a quadriceps injury.
HOUSTON (AP) β A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that outfielder Colby Rasmus has accepted the Houston Astros’ one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer. The decision comes after all 34 qualifying offers had been turned down in the first three years of baseball’s current collective bargaining agreement. The 29-year-old Rasmus hit .238 with a career-high 25 home runs and 61 RBIs last season, his first with the Astros.
UNDATED (AP) β The Angels have acquired two-time Gold Glove shortstop Andrelton (AN’-druhl-tuhn) Simmons from the Braves for shortstop Erick Aybar (EYE’-bahr) and top pitching prospects Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis. The Braves also get $2.5 million, while the Angels get minor league catcher Jose Briceno in the trade. And the Seattle Mariners have acquired 38-year-old right-hander Joaquin Benoit (WAH’-keen BEHN’-wah) from the San Diego Padres for two minor league prospects, pitcher Enyel De Los Santos and infielder Nelson Ward.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) β TCU football coach Gary Patterson said in an interview with SiriusXMCollege yesterday that star receiver Josh Doctson will miss the rest of the season with a left wrist injury. Players fell on Doctson’s arm after he made a catch in TCU’s 49-29 loss at Oklahoma State last weekend. The senior scored 14 touchdowns this season and is second in the nation with 146.1 receiving yards per game, and third with 8.7 receptions per game.
