SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) β€” Clemson, the top team in The Associated Press football poll, is on the road at Syracuse this afternoon. The Tigers moved past Ohio State in the rankings last Sunday despite the fact the Buckeyes remained unbeaten last week. Clemson can become the outright ACC Atlantic champion with a win over the Orange.

LOS ANGELES (AP) β€” In the lone afternoon game in the NBA the Clippers, who lost Thursday night in Phoenix, are hosting the Pistons. The Clippers enter the game at 5-4 while the Pistons are 5-3, riding a two-game losing streak.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The two teams that played in the NBA Finals last spring are in action tonight. League champion Golden State is looking to start the season 11-0 with a home game against Brooklyn, while Cleveland, which has won eight straight, is at Milwaukee.

OTTAWA (AP) β€” The New York Rangers are enjoying a great start to the season with a record of 12-2. Fresh off beating St. Louis Thursday night, the Rangers are in Ottawa playing the Senators this afternoon. The Sens are 8-5.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) β€” The men’s college basketball season got going last night with games across the country. In Annapolis, Maryland, the top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels opened with an easy 91-67 win over Temple. Kennedy Meeks led the way for the Heels with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
