Neighbors Meet with Police After East Charlotte Home Invasion

CHARLOTTE, NC – Neighbors remain on edge, more than a week after a young mother was shot during a home invasion in East Charlotte. Tonight community members are joining with police to ease fears.
“I’m terrified right now. I am,” explains neighbor Cynthia Davis.
Davis lives just across the street from the home where intruders kicked in the door and shot 21-year-old Semantha Bunce.
“I woke up one morning, I’m like ‘OK, I’m good here.’ You know? And then to know something like this, I mean, just steps away from my house, it’s scary,” Davis says.
She and dozens of her neighbors showed up at a CMPD community meeting Saturday.
Many are still on edge after knowing that Bunce’s home was seemingly chosen at random.
Bunce was home alone, except for her 4-month-old baby, who she was feeding at the time. The baby is OK, but Bunch remains in the hospital.
Police are now working to help re-establish a neighborhood watch.
They’re encouraging people to get to know each other better, and not hesitate to call police if they see something suspicious.
“Some people are very concerned. Afraid. Almost brought a lady to tears here in our meeting. And that’s very heartbreaking for all of us,” says Boulder Creek HOA President Patrick Brown.
Brown says he’s confident though that coming together will help neighbors feel safer.
“Don’t just stand by and say, ‘Oh someone else will take care of it,’ let us get involved,” he says.
