Local Group Calls for Boycott of Christmas Spending

Β

CHARLOTTE, NC — A local group is calling for a protest of Black Friday.Β

The Greater Charlotte Area Local Organizing Committee asks people of color to not spend money between now and the new year.Β That includes not buying Christmas gifts, Christmas trees or decorations.Β

The group says a similar boycott last year had an impact.

“The numbers show that spending was down 11 percent,” said Corey Muhammad of GCALOC. “So we know that protests are happening and it’s making a dent.”

The group screened a film called “Black Friday” Friday night at Rebecca’s Taste of the South restaurant in University City.

That film shows the impact of boycotting Christmas spending.
