Busy Travel Day Anticipated Sunday at Charlotte-Douglas

CHARLOTTE, NC – There was plenty of hustle and bustle at baggage claim Saturday as travellers returned to Charlotte-Douglas.
But Sunday is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the entire year.
Melissa Phillips flies to Chicago each Thanksgiving. But this year she decided to come home on Saturday instead of Sunday. She says it made a big difference.
“The airport was not nearly as crowded at O’Hare. Travelling was much better,” Phillips says.
If you’re coming to the airport Sunday, officials say arrive at least two hours early. And prepare for long lines and extra security.
Something Philips says she saw last year. “It’s absolutely packed. The line to get through TSA is very, very crowded and backed up. Today it wasn’t so bad,” she says.
If you’re heading out on the roads, expect extra volume, and plenty of troopers. Look for them to be stationed at least every 10 miles on all the major interstates.
They say they’re looking to reduce fatal accidents. Last year 14 people died on North Carolina roads over Thanksgiving weekend.
