Small Business Saturday is a big hit in South End

Β CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Β Move over Black Friday, local businesses are taking their turn in the retail spotlight this weekend.
Thousands of Charlotte shoppers packed area stores for Small Business Saturday today.
And as we found out, the day is about much more than making a few extra sales.
“I think it’s amazing this is just gorgeous all the wonderful shops and music, we already bought 2 pounds of grits and a Christmas ornament yea its wonderful,” says Rob Gillezau.
Shoppers getting a chance to spend their money locally.
“Today you feel like you are being a part of the community because you are going to the small businesses that operate in the community,” says Tina Simpson.

Jerri Brown owns Jazzy Cheesecakes inside of Atherton Mill market and says small business Saturday really helps support local businesses.

“This really gives us the exposure that we need, we heard all day today that people didn’t know that we were here so having this exposure is great for us,” says Brown.

Rochelle Baxter of Queen City Pantry says she too looks forward to this day every year.

“I love to see everybody out here keeping the money in the local economy, supporting local vendors and just the festivities and the energy in here is really great ,” says Baxter.

A sentiment felt throughout the day, shop local South End connecting vendors selling clothing, food, jewelry, dΓ©cor, art, and more to customers who say they want to give back.

“When I come down to North Carolina I don’t want to shop at the box store I want to shop at the little guys, that’s what makes the city special,” says Gillezau.
