UPDATE: Deputies say they have arrested 26-year-old Darren Manuel of Charlotte for the shooting of Greg McKee at a rest area on I-85.
Cabarrus County Deputies arrested Manuel at his home on Willow Glenn Road in Charlotte Tuesday night with the help of CMPD, Mecklenburg County Probation and Parole, and FBI.
Manuel is charged with attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. He is being held on a $2M bond and is also awaiting punishment for parole violation.
McKee remains in the hospital at this time.
The investigation is still ongoing.
CABARRUS CO., N.C.– Deputies are looking for two suspects after a man was shot at a rest stop on I-85 in Cabarrus County Saturday night.
Police have released surveillance video of one of the men they believe shot 43-year-old Greg McKee.
McKee was shot Saturday night after he and his family stopped at a rest stop along I-85. Two black males approached McKee in the restroom and pointed a gun at him. When he went to run, they shot him in the back and fled the scene.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but his wife says he is now paralyzed from the thigh down. The paralysis is expected to be permanent.
McKee’s family, including his wife and 4 children, were not injured in the incident.
