KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Alcohol. Divorce. Immigration. And homosexuality. All things Kings Mountain mayoral candidate Eugene “Sherlock” Holmes, an Independent, thinks should be outlawed. WCCB News @ Ten anchor Morgan Fogarty asked Holmes, “But, you know, with all of the advancements in rights for the gay community, that this is an incredible long shot that you’re taking here, at best, to put it very mildly, to try to reverse the years of progress that the gay community has made in terms of seeking equality?” Holmes replied, “You put one of ’em in jail for being a queer, you’d never have another trouble.”Β

Β
Saturday morning, Holmes along with the other mayoral candidates, will meet here at the Kings Mountain Woman’s Club, for their annual meet the candidates forum to answer questions and discuss current events.Β
Β
Holmes supports the Kentucky County Clerk who refused to issue gay marriage licenses. “If I was mayor, I would ask them are you a queer?” Fogarty asked, “But the mayor doesn’t issue marriage licenses in Kings Mountain.” Holmes, “He does approve the people getting hired in his jurisdiction!”Β
Β
Holmes says he’s been married to his wife for 53 years. He says he is a lifelong member of the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee. He tells us he’s never had alcohol before. And he says this is the first time he’s run for office. He showed us the hand made posters and campaign signs he says have gotten him in trouble with the police before.Β
Β
Fogarty asked, “What would you like to say to voters ahead of the November election, what do you want them to know about you in one sentence?” He replies, “My one sentence is we believe is law and order!”
Β
Holmes says he has support in the community. One of his neighbors, who didn’t want to go on camera, told us she would vote for him.Β
