ACC Mascots Light Uptown Christmas Tree

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte leaders have declared this weekend’s ACC championship game an extraordinary event. That means more police in and around Bank of America Stadium, who have more power to search people and their bags.

73,000 fans are expected at the sold-out game between North Carolina and Clemson. Many of those fans were on hand Thursday night for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Uptown.

The ACC’s 14 mascots helped Santa flip the switch and posed for pictures. No matter who we talked to, everyone was sure their team would win Saturday.

“There’s some good talent on the Tar Heels from the Charlotte area, but unfortunately they’re not gonna win this one,” said Raleigh resident Stephen Jacobs.

“I’m excited,” said a UNC fan. “Its gonna be a good game. Carolina! We’re gonna go all the way!”

After the tree lighting, the party moved into Founder’s Hall with music, food and a chance to meet Santa.
