Duke Energy Protest | PHOTOS
CHARLOTTE,NC–A large group of people gathered in front of the Duke Energy building Thursday morning to protest the company’s corrupt actions and blatant disregard for the environment and the state of North Carolina’s citizens, according to Appalachian Voices and Greenpeace.
Duke Energy is in the cross hairs of environmental activists, Appalachian Voices, NC WARN, Greenpeace and Democracy NC, for their careless dumping of coal ash and the thought that North Carolina tax payers are responsible for the clean up.
CEO of Duke Energy, Lynn Good, said the company may carry costs for cleaning 70 miles of the Dan River now caked with toxic coal waste, but paying a billion dollars to clean up toxin-laden waste at the 14 other sites is the consumers responsibility.
The fight for getting Duke Energy to clean up the coal ash will be tough for activists considering Gov. McCrory is a former Duke Energy employee and it’s rumored that he wants tax payers to pick up the $1billion clean up costs.
The protest held early Thursday morning was focused on bringing to light the alleged corruption and the disregard concerning coal ash dumping that has affected North Carolina citizens.
