Kuechly Status for Sunday Not Much Clearer
CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Luke Kuechly stretched with teammates, even had a few laughs.
But that was about it.
Luke Kuechly watched practice from the sideline on Wednesday. He remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol–a five step program that a concussed player has to pass, as deemed by an independent neurologist, in order to get back on the field.
"He’s doing what he’s allowed to do. He went out and did it," Rivera said about Kuechly. "He did what he was supposed to do in the training room, weight room, then he went outside and did it."
Ron Rivera succeeded in being as vague as possible about the linebacker.
Concussions have been an issue with the NFL in recent years. Four NFL players were concussed in the first half of the early games on Sunday.
Carolina Medical Center Athletic Training Specialist TJ Cirone said concussions vary in severity which determines recovery time. He uses a seven day recovery plan before concussed athletes he see can return to the playing field.
"The risk gets worse if you come back too early," Cirone said.
There is no word if Kuechly will be back for Sunday’s home opener against Houston. Rivera provided a coy answer when asked if his linebacker would play if cleared by doctors.
"We’ll see," Rivera said.
