Two Brothers, Friend Found Shot, Killed
CHARLOTTE, NC — “They both had these smiles that would light up the room,” said Luis Hood, uncle of two of the victims. “Very, very warm men. Very family oriented; both have children.”
But after waiting all day for confirmation, CMPD told the family the devastating news. Brothers 29-year-old Naquavis and 28-year-old Mandrell Benson were two of the victims found shot dead inside a home on China Grove Church Road. The third victim, Javarius Deshawn McGee, just turned 30 on Thursday.
“They had a party last night for the other friend that was there that died,” said Hood. “He had a birthday and they were there, and that’s the last anybody has talked to them.”
CMPD was called to the home early Friday morning, and found the three dead from gunshot wounds. No words of motive or suspects. Aunt Koketa Hood says Naquavis was turning his life around, close to graduating from the Art Institute of Charlotte in Culinary Arts. So the entire family is in shock someone would do this.
“Especially after the holidays, he loves to cook, and he makes the best smoked turkey, fried turkey, and we just had a big Thanksgiving,” said Koketa Hood.
Naquavis was a father two girls. Mandrell had two kids, plus another on the way. While the family mourns the loss of two brothers in one day, they say they’ll remember them happy, just a week ago at Thanksgiving.
“It was good to have that be the last time I saw them,” said Luis. “The last memories, I saw both of them.”
